Konami confirmed today what has long been rumored - a PS2 port of Silent Hill: Origins is in fact in the works.
"Console gamers can now expect the same chilling, suspenseful and fear-filled experience that handheld gamers encountered when we released Silent Hill Origins on the PSP system," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "This is their chance to learn more of the mystery and mythos surrounding Silent Hill that's been hinted at in earlier games and made the series such a success."
The move makes a lot of sense for Konami of course, as the PlayStation 2 was the leading home of the franchise throughout the last console generation, and a port to the system should see a great turn on the relatively small development investment. More importantly for PS2 owners, the game is really good, as we outlined in our recent review of the PSP version.
Silent Hill: Origins tells the story of Travis Grady, a trucker with a mysterious past who’d rather live a lonely life on the open road than settle down. Late one night while on the job, Travis passes near the town of Silent Hill, and that’s when his troubles begin. Silent Hill: Origins is probably the most action-oriented installment in the franchise, as Travis is nimbler than series heroes (victims?) of the past and can use almost anything not nailed down as a weapon against the city's horrific inhabitants.
No release date was announced for the PS2 version of Silent Hill: Origins, but we're guessing it will arrive sometime before the Christmas rush this year. When we know an exact date, we'll let you know.
